Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Thursday said the Uniform Civil Code will soon be implemented in the state, adding that it would place Madhya Pradesh among the major states in the country where the law is already in force.
Speaking during a Tiranga Yatra on boats at Bhoj Taal in Bhopal ahead of Independence Day, Yadav said the move reflected a commitment to equality. “I am happy that the Uniform Civil Code is going to be implemented in the state. With this, Madhya Pradesh will join the ranks of the major states (where UCC has been implemented) in the country, bringing the sacred spirit of equality to the state,” he said.
Yadav said there would be no discrimination between people on the basis of religion. “Whether Hindu, Muslim, Parsi, or Christian, the same laws will apply equally to all,” he said.
Referring to India’s progress, he added, “When we look at our independence and the developments taking place in the world, we feel proud of our country. Our three armed forces performed amazing feats. Today the country has achieved unprecedented strength.”
At Bhopal’s Upper Lake, patriotic songs including ‘Mera Rang De Basanti Chola’ were played across the Boat Club area. Young athletes also staged kayaking and canoeing performances and saluted the tricolour through a canoe slalom show, an official said. For the first time in the country, a floating tricolour was also created in the middle of the lake, the official claimed.
Praising the participants, Yadav said, “The thrill is palpable. This performance demonstrates that life is not the same. Determination evolves with time. These athletes, similarly, face the rocky waves of the ocean. Amidst the struggle for life and death, they demonstrate their accomplishment through their determination and skill.”
He added, “Today, the nation and the world are witnessing that the tricolour journey can also be carried out by boat. Today, the state is setting an amazing record.”
Yadav also said, “The tricolour is visible everywhere today. May God protect our country from evil eyes. May our country be all-powerful and capable. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, let us all move the country forward and competently towards the Amrit Kaal.”
Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Vishwas Sarang also took part in the Tiranga Yatra on a boat, which combined the Chief Minister’s announcement on the UCC with Independence Day celebrations at the lake.
