UAE tops second day at Abu Dhabi Grand Slam
The UAE led the standings on the second day of the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu Championship, as young athletes took over Mubadala Arena on Saturday.
The final round of the season continued in Abu Dhabi with kids, youth and juvenile divisions. Organisers said the day drew 1,400 athletes from around the world, making it a record turnout for those categories.
The UAE finished top of the day’s country rankings, ahead of Brazil in second and Russia in third.
It followed a strong opening day for the host nation at the same venue, with the second day placing more focus on the next group of fighters coming through the sport.
At academy level, Al Jazira Club finished first in the standings. ADMA Academy took second, with Al Ain Club third.
The event again showed the depth of jiu-jitsu in the UAE, where the sport has become one of the country’s most established school and club pathways. The strong home showing also came in front of busy stands, with families and teammates adding to the atmosphere around the mats.
Several senior sports officials attended the second day, along with UFC fighter Khamzat Chimaev.
Chimaev praised Abu Dhabi’s role in the growth of jiu-jitsu and spoke about the sport’s importance in mixed martial arts. His presence added interest for young competitors, many of whom are still at the early stages of their competitive careers.
Officials said the level of participation showed the continued work being done to grow jiu-jitsu and give young athletes more chances to compete.
The championship will conclude on today with the professional division. The final day will also include the crowning of the season’s top-ranked athletes.
