UAE sports centre to train young national talent

The Emirates Centre for Sports Science and Sports Medicine will launch new specialised programmes to help train young Emiratis for careers in sport.

The Dubai-based centre announced the plans on Friday, April 24, following the completion of its first Professional Diploma in Sports Management and Analysis.

The next set of programmes will be delivered with the Ministry of Sports. They will focus on areas such as sports management, performance analysis and the use of artificial intelligence in sport.

“The new programmes will be implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Sports.”

Dr Ziad Saleh, executive director of the centre, said the courses were designed to meet the needs of the UAE sports sector and give young national talent practical experience.

He said the aim was to create a learning setting that connects academic study with hands-on work.

The first diploma course ran for eight weeks. It included lectures, practical sessions and workshops. It was open to Emirati men and women aged between 20 and 35.

The programme was supervised by the Emirates Centre for Sports Science, with support from the Ministry of Sports and the UAE Talent Support Committee. It was also run in cooperation with the Emirates Centre for Sports Medicine and Precision Football.

Saleh said the first group of graduates marked an important step for the centre, with the diploma described as the first of its kind in the UAE and the wider region.

The centre said the programme helped prepare national professionals who can support sports federations, clubs and institutions across the country.

The UAE sports sector shows a wider focus on developing local talent away from the field of play, including in coaching, administration, analysis and sports science.
