The UAE Judo Federation has named an eight-athlete squad for the Astana Grand Slam in Kazakhstan next month.

The event will be staged from May 8 to 10 and is organised by the Kazakhstan Judo Federation.

The UAE team includes seven male athletes and one female athlete.

Simon Constantin will compete in the under-60kg category, with Narmand Bayan selected at under-66kg.

Naji Yazbek and Karim Abdul Latif have been chosen for the under-73kg division, while Omar Jad will compete at under-81kg.

Aram Gorgian will represent the UAE at under-90kg, Omar Marouf has been selected in the over-100kg category, and Bshairat Khroudi will compete in the women’s 52kg division.

Mohammed bin Thaaloob Al Dere’i, president of the UAE Judo Federation, said Astana is a key stop in the team’s season.

The competition follows the Dushanbe Grand Slam in Tajikistan, which runs from April 30 to May 3.

Both events are part of the UAE team’s longer route towards qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The UAE delegation in Kazakhstan will be led by Dr Nasser Al Tamimi, National Olympic Committee member and vice president of the federation.

Head coach Viktor Sikrov and the team’s technical staff will also travel with the squad.
