UAE delegation heads to Budapest for Zayed run

A 70-member delegation from the UAE is heading to Budapest for the first Hungarian edition of the Zayed Charity Run.

The event will take place on May 16 and 17 at Hero’s Square, one of the Hungarian capital’s main landmarks.

The UAE runners includes members of the organising committee, partners, sponsors and Emirati runners. They will join participants in a programme built around charity, community and sport.

The run will include 10km, 5km and 3km races. The 10km route will pass through central Budapest, while the shorter distances will take runners through Városliget Park. A children’s race will also be held.

Total prize money of AED 70,000 will be awarded across the race categories. Organisers have also planned family activities around the event, including hot air balloon rides.

An online charity auction will run alongside the weekend. It features artwork by Emirati artist Abdulla Lutfi, with proceeds going towards the Zayed Charity Run’s charity work.

The auction will remain open until 3pm Budapest time on May 17.

Proceeds from the run will support charitable projects in Hungary. The event continues the work of the Zayed Charity Run, which was created in the name of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Lieutenant General (Ret.) Mohammed Hilal Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee of the Zayed Charity Run, said the Budapest edition marked a new step for the event.

“Our presence in Budapest marks a new chapter in the journey of the Zayed Charity Run and reflects the UAE’s unwavering belief that humanity is a shared value that unites us all,” he said.

He added that the UAE delegation was proud to represent the country at the event.
