U.S. Officials to Arrive in Pakistan Tomorrow for Iran Negotiations: Trump

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that U.S. representatives would arrive in Islamabad on Monday evening for negotiations with Iran, while warning that Washington could target Iranian infrastructure if Tehran rejects what he described as a “fair and reasonable” deal.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the talks would follow reported ceasefire violations near the Strait of Hormuz, where shipping disruptions have persisted despite earlier announcements that the waterway would reopen.

“We’re offering a very fair and reasonable deal,” Trump wrote, adding that failure to reach an agreement could lead the United States to strike Iranian power plants and bridges.

Iran said on Saturday it would keep the strait closed after Washington indicated its naval blockade would remain in place, reversing an earlier announcement that the key oil transit route would reopen.

Trump also accused Iran of firing at vessels near the waterway in what he called a violation of the ceasefire, saying shots were directed at ships, including one linked to France and another from Britain.

Separately, security was tightened across Islamabad ahead of the expected talks, authorities said.

Road closures and traffic restrictions were imposed in parts of the capital and neighbouring Rawalpindi, while checkpoints were set up near major hotels used for diplomatic meetings, including the Islamabad Marriott Hotel and the Serena Hotel Islamabad.

Streets leading to the Serena Hotel were closed with barricades and barbed wire on Sunday, and additional security personnel were deployed around the area where previous rounds of talks between U.S. and Iranian delegations were held earlier this month.

Pakistan has hosted earlier negotiations between the two sides, which ended without agreement but produced limited progress on issues including nuclear terms and the future of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
