The Shu ni Ichido Classmate o Kau Hanashi yuri light novel series will debut in English this October with the title Buying a Classmate Once a Week. Yen Press is publishing it.
The slow-burn romance from Usa Haneda, who has described the story as a “co-existence yuri” between two “pain-in-the-ass” girls, follows classmates Shiori Miyagi and Hazuki Sendai. The two originally have little interaction with each other but are now in a secret arrangement where Hazuki visits Shiori’s home and obeys her orders for five thousand yen a week.

Buying a Classmate Once a Week began as a web novel on Kakuyomu in 2020, while the light novels, illustrated by U35 and published under KADOKAWA’s Fantasia Bunko label/imprint, started in 2023. The light novel series placed fourth in the Tsugi ni Kuru Light Novel Taisho 2024 bunkobon category and ranked ninth in This Light Novel Is Amazing! 2024‘s bunko ranking and Tsugi ni Kuru Light Novel Taisho 2023‘s bunkobon category. It also inspired an Akita Shoten-published manga adaptation drawn by Migihara.
The ninth volume of the light novel series, which is currently part of Fantasia Bunko’s recently created GirlsLine yuri project, will be released on May 20, 2026 in Japan.
Buying a Classmate Once a Week has been translated into Traditional Chinese, Thai, and Korean. There are also trailers and voice dramas that star Lynn (as Shiori) and Kana Ichinose (as Hazuki), who respectively voiced Miorine Rembran and Suletta Mercury from Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury.
Yen Press’ synopsis for the first volume reads:
Once a week, high schooler Shiori Miyagi pays her classmate Hazuki Sendai five thousand yen for the right to make the girl follow her orders for the afternoon. Their sessions start with normal activities like snacking and chatting…until a mood strikes Miyagi, and she gives Sendai commands that veer into risky territory. No matter the order, Sendai follows, even if it means licking Miyagi’s feet. Yet after half a year of engaging in this secret dynamic, neither girl calls the other a friend. So what does that make them? And with their last year of high school looming, is their relationship doomed to crumble?
