The Boston Red Sox’ first order of business this offseason is tweaking the coaching staff.
Third base coach Chad Epperson and first base coach Pablo Cabrera will not be on the big-league staff in 2027, according to MassLive.com. Epperson will manage the organization’s Triple-A affiliate in Worcester, while Cabrera returns to his previous role as minor league defensive coordinator.
At this time, it’s unclear who will replace Epperson and Cabrera.
Boston’s latest coaching changes come seven months after the firing of manager Alex Cora and six members of his staff: third base coach Kyle Hudson, hitting instructor Pete Fatse, bench coach Ramon Vazquez, game-planning coordinator Jason Varitek, assistant hitting coach Dillon Lawson, and major league hitting strategy coach Joe Cronin.
Former Triple-A Worcester manager Chad Tracy took over for Cora as interim manager, and the organization removed his interim tag in September. Epperson, who had been managing the organization’s Double-A affiliate in Portland, replaced Hudson as third base coach.
Iggy Suarez was named the WooSox’ interim manager after Tracy’s promotion. He’ll serve as Epperson’s bench coach in Worcester in 2027, per MLB.com’s Ian Browne.
