A.J. Brown doesn’t want to go backward. He doesn’t want to talk about his time with the Eagles. Don’t mention it. Nope, don’t bring it up. He doesn’t even want to hear the question. Let’s not go there.
The Eagles and Patriots seem to have prefered throwing UFC-Style haymakers on the Practice field this week rather than engage in extended dialogue prior to the Patriots 24–21 win over the Eagles at Gillette Stadium on Saturday night. Fully padded NFL Players brawling in the late-August heat to prove — well — hardly anything beyond the flair of tempers.
One visceral reaction that the Eagles may have been having is still the shock that they didn’t meet the Patriots in Super Bowl LV. Instead — it was the Seattle Seahawks who thrashed Derek Maye and the New England 29–13. Now Derek Maye has a new weapon that New England hopes will give them a seventh opportunity at a Lombardi Trophy.
Four years ago — the Eagles paired talented 2nd-year wide receiver Devonta Smith with the size and power of AJ Brown. The result was an appearance in Super Bowl LVII that very well could have ended in another Eagles World Championship if Brown and Smith and the Eagles offense had just one minute longer.
Two years later — the Eagles didn’t need any extra time to leave any doubt against the Chiefs in a 40–22 domination. All was right in the Eagles’ world — except for an underlying storyline. Dating back to a 2024 season — it became no secret that AJ Brown was unhappy with Philadelphia’s offense — and with it’s signal caller. Posts on social media, suggestive press conferences, and reading on the sideline for mental stability all suggested a slow degradation of his contentedness in Philadelphia.
When Brown was held to only three catches in the NFC Wildcard Game, yelled back and forth with Nick Sirianni on the sideline, and when the Eagles drafted Makai Lemon 20th overall in the NFL Draft — you could almost feel that he wouldn’t be back. Some organizations allow that type of discontent — the Eagles do not.
Now AJ Brown will attempt to lead the Patriots back to the Super Bowl. Proving that he’s worth missing and worth the upside. It’s possible that they may even meet the Eagles when they get there.
But we won’t mention that, either.
