You might not think that the heat of August is a big time for College baseball — with the Oklahoma Sooners winning the 2026 College World Series some months ago. But baseball garners attention at any time of the year in America.
Once again the Little League World Series is capturing hearts and minds — with the East Side team from West Chester gaining regional and national excitement. In fact — it may be worth savoring this World Series in case the Phillies don’t make it.
Pennsylvania baseball is back on the map — and two Philadelphia Collegiate Programs are working hard with big plans for the 2027 season.
Down on 20th and West Olney Ave. — LaSalle Baseball is back after a nearly five-year hiatus. The first year wasn’t a winning season — but the program is planning for a better 2027 with added talent.
Across town — St. Joseph’s baseball season ended way too soon. But the Hawks have much to celebrate. Among the accolades — a number one seed in the A10 Tournament, the best record in the history of the Program, a 4th Liberty Bell Classic Title, and now personal accolades. From the Saint Joseph’s senior class — Cole Fehrman and Joey Pagano were given nods on the 2026 Atlantic 10 Baseball All-Championship Team.
Just weeks after St. Joe’s named announced that Ashwin “Ash” Puri to be assumIng the role of the University’s new Vice President and Director of Athletics — and the 2026 Broad Street Runners sprinted near St. Joseph’s University — the Hawks were making history in a very different way.
The Hawks have been playing baseball for the University for 132 years since 1894. They qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 1971 and 1974. In 1982 — St. Joseph’s captured the East Coast Conference Eastern Division Title as well as an ECC1 Championship.
The Hawks Mens Baseball Team scored eight runs in the ninth inning against Rhode Island to win 14–12 — which concluded St. Joseph’s regular season. Amazingly — the Hawks responded with two outs in the ninth inning. With the bases loaded — St. Joseph’s scored five consecutive singles. Beggy then hit a thee-run home run to give the Hawks the lead.
The victory gave them the A10 Tournament Crown — with a University best-ever of 35–18 record. It’s also a conference record for total wins in a season. Catcher Blake Primrose has also set two school records with twenty home runs and sixty-five runs scored this season.
As the Number One Seed — St. Joseph’s advanced to the A10 Tournament Championship and was eliminated in the Consolation Round Bracket.
Whether it’s the Little League World Series or College Baseball in Philadelphia — no matter the season — baseball in Pennsylvania isn’t just popular.
It’s back.
