Telangana Police have facilitated the refund of ₹139.68 crore to 24,189 cyber fraud victims so far this year, with the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) using the Lok Adalat and Money Restoration Module (MRM) mechanisms to speed up the recovery of defrauded money.
During the recently held National Lok Adalat, the TGCSB, in coordination with the Telangana State Legal Services Authority, banks, digital payment service providers and police units across the State, facilitated refunds totalling ₹42.28 crore to 3,896 victims.
Cyberabad topped the list with ₹14.19 crore being refunded to 942 victims, followed by the TGCSB with ₹10.55 crore to 41 victims. Malkajgiri facilitated ₹5.27 crore to 1,024 victims, while Hyderabad refunded ₹5.02 crore to 530 victims. Suryapet facilitated ₹76 lakh to 34 victims.
The TGCSB is also using the MRM launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs in May 2026. The module became operational in Telangana in June and enables restoration of funds to cybercrime victims without requiring court orders.
As of September 12, ₹27.23 crore had been refunded to 9,355 victims through the MRM. The two mechanisms together have provided financial relief to 13,251 victims during the year.
Since its inception, the TGCSB has facilitated the refund of ₹514.93 crore to 73,204 cybercrime victims.
The bureau urged cybercrime victims to apply for refunds through the MRM and report fraud immediately through the 1930 Cyber Helpline or the national cybercrime reporting portal. Prompt reporting during the ‘Golden Hour’ significantly improves the chances of freezing and recovering the defrauded amount.
The TGCSB also advised citizens not to share OTPs, PINs, passwords or banking details with unknown persons, verify customer-care numbers only through official websites and avoid clicking suspicious links received through SMS, email, WhatsApp or social media.
