The son of a former Boston Bruins goaltender is accused of using his father’s name to scam people out of thousands of dollars by offering fraudulent sports tickets, police said.

Robert Cheevers, 57, of East Boston — the son of goalkeeper Gerry Cheevers — was arrested April 4 on outstanding warrants following a months-long investigation, after allegedly stealing from multiple people by fraudulently offering sporting event tickets, police said.

Police arrested Robert Cheevers, 57, of East Boston, on outstanding warrants on April 4 after a months-long investigation, according to a statement from the Leicester Police Department

Police said Cheevers is accused of stealing money from multiple victims by fraudulently offering discounted tickets to professional sporting events.

According to the statement of facts filed in court, one victim reported that in late 2024, Cheevers suggested attending a game and represented himself as having ties to the Bruins organization. The victim said they believed he had legitimate connections “due to who his father is” and purchased four tickets for a total of about $600 that were never provided.

Cheevers is charged with larceny over $1,200 by a single scheme. He was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Newburyport District for the same offense, as well as a warrant out of Clark County, Nevada for alleged burglary, felony theft, and insufficient funds, police said.

In the Newburyport case, a victim told police she had lost approximately $48,000 to Cheevers, who “borrowed money from her and never paid it back,” according to the statement of facts.

Cheevers was arraigned in East Brookfield District Court and pleaded not guilty, according to court records. He is being held at the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office on cash bail.
