The Prime Minister of Australia, The Hon Anthony Albanese MP, will return to deliver the keynote address at the fifth annual Australia’s Economic Outlook business luncheon to be held on Friday 5 June at Crown Sydney.

The event, presented by Sky News Australia and The Australian, will see the Prime Minister outline his economic vision for the nation, including strategies to deal with geopolitical risks and domestic challenges to ensure a prosperous future for all Australians against the backdrop of rising global tensions and the threat of recession.

The Prime Minister will then join Sky News Australia Political Editor Andrew Clennell for a live televised interview to unpack the most pressing business and economic issues, including the ongoing fuel crisis, international trade tariffs and spending cuts and new tax measures that are expected to be delivered in the May Federal Budget.

Sky News Australia Business Editor Ross Greenwood will host a Q&A with the Reserve Bank of Australia Deputy Governor Andrew Hauser, who last week declared stagflation as a “central banker’s nightmare,” warning that global energy and oil price pressures combined with inflation and increasing interest rates locally will present significant challenges to the Australian economy in the coming months.

Paul Whittaker, Chief Executive Officer of Sky News Australia said:

“We’re heading into one of the most consequential Federal Budgets in decades as our economy strains under the weight of record-high government spending and national debt that is set to top $1 trillion dollars.”

“These domestic factors, combined with the likely fall out of the Iran war and the associated fuel crisis and its flow-on cost effects, are adding to inflationary pressures, driving up interest rates and putting further cost-of-living strains on Australian families and businesses.”

“Returning for his fourth consecutive year as our keynote speaker, we welcome Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to Australia’s Economic Outlook to headline these important discussions and share his plans on how his government will tackle these challenges and more.”

The Australian’s editor-in-chief Michelle Gunn said:

“With the Federal Budget approaching and the Reserve Bank signalling rates may remain higher for longer following a prolonged tightening cycle Australia’s economic direction is at a critical inflection point.”

“At the same time, escalating global conflict and geopolitical instability are reshaping trade, investment and energy markets in real time.”

“This year’s Economic Outlook brings together the country’s key decision-makers to interrogate these forces and set out a clear path forward for long-term prosperity.”
