Ahead of her first trip to India, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said the importance of collaboration with New Delhi is growing amid increasing uncertainty in the global situation.
Speaking at an informal press conference before departing for India, Takaichi said she aims to advance concrete cooperation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on strengthening the strategic partnership, economic security and greater collaboration between businesses of both countries.
She said the visit will focus on expanding India-Japan cooperation through both government and private sector participation, including the Japan-India Economic Forum, which will see participation from over 150 members of Japan’s business community.
Takaichi also highlighted the shared responsibility of India and Japan as major democracies in Asia in ensuring peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. She said discussions with Modi would include efforts towards a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” framework involving Japan, India, the United States and Australia.
Calling the visit an opportunity to deepen personal trust with Prime Minister Modi, Takaichi said she hopes to further strengthen the partnership between the two countries across strategic, economic and innovation-driven areas.
