A drinking session among friends allegedly ended in a brutal murder over just Rs 80 in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district, with police claiming the victim was strangled with a belt, attacked with a sharp turban pin and his body dumped in a sugarcane field to cover up the crime.
The case came to light during the investigation into the disappearance of Anees, whose brother Jameel reported him missing at Syohara police station on September 27.
According to police, Anees was drinking with his friends on the night of September 23 when an argument broke out. What began as a verbal altercation allegedly escalated after the accused believed he was carrying money.
Investigators say Himanshu and Raja held Anees by his hands and legs, while Jaswinder alias Harsh alias Anga allegedly strangled him with a belt and attacked his neck with a sharp metal pin.
MURDER ALLEGEDLY LINKED TO RS 80
During questioning, the accused allegedly told police that they found only Rs 80 in Anees’s pocket after the killing.
Police say the accused targeted their friend believing he had money, only to discover that the amount was a mere Rs 80.
After the murder, the trio allegedly hid the body in a sugarcane field near a canal embankment close to Kumharpura village. They also disposed of the clothes worn during the crime at different locations in an attempt to destroy evidence, investigators said.
TURBAN PIN ALLEGEDLY USED AS MURDER WEAPON
One of the most striking details to emerge from the investigation is the alleged murder weapon — a pointed metal pin commonly used to adjust a Sikh turban and tuck stray hair into place.
Police said the sharp pin was recovered on the accused’s identification. Such pins, known in some places as a “baaz”, are typically used for setting a turban rather than as a weapon.
Investigators allege that the pin was used to inflict multiple injuries on Anees’s neck during the attack. A belt allegedly used in the strangulation was also recovered.
THIRD ACCUSED ARRESTED
Police had earlier arrested and jailed two accused, Himanshu and Raja. The third accused, Jaswinder alias Harsh alias Anga, has now been arrested.
According to police, a belt, the sharp metal pin and Anees’s Hero Splendor motorcycle were recovered based on information provided by the accused.
During the investigation, police also found that the accused identified himself as Jaswinder alias Harsh alias Anga during questioning, and not Harpreet alias Harsh alias Anga as initially believed.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
