RIHlease the music, sis! That’s what we’re saying amid Rihanna RIHvealing that she’s sitting on over 100 unreleased songs that we’ve been waiting a decade to hear.
The nine-time Grammy winner revealed during a Fenty Beauty TikTok livestream on Tuesday, Oct. 6, that she has approximately 170 unreleased songs, offering a surprising update as anticipation continues to build around her long-awaited ninth studio album.
“If there are 10 products in a vault, then I have at least 17 vaults,” Rihanna said while discussing her unreleased material.
The revelation comes 10 years after the release of her eighth studio album, ANTI, which featured hits including “Work,” “Needed Me,” and “Love on the Brain.”
Although Rihanna has repeatedly teased her return to music, the singer has yet to announce an official release date for her next project, commonly referred to by fans as R9.
Rihanna RIHignited R9 Rumors In February
Her latest comments also follow months of speculation fueled by glimpses into her recording process.
As previously reported in February, Rihanna sparked renewed excitement when she shared an Instagram video documenting a particularly busy day that included a late-night Fenty meeting, a recording session, and some last-minute parenting duties.
“I have to go to the studio after this,” Rihanna told her team in the Feb. 26 video. “And I have to make a Mardi Gras costume for my son after the studio.”
By 2 a.m., the singer was shown working in the studio, adjusting a soundboard, writing in a notebook, and dancing along to music that remained inaudible to viewers.
Then most recently, her boo A$AP Rocky added to the speculation in August when he confirmed during an appearance on The Jason Lee Show that the singer was actively recording new material.
“Nah,” Rocky responded when asked whether he was responsible for her extended musical hiatus. “She in the studio right now. Yeah, I said it. Sorry, babe.”
He continued, “Bro, she working. She cooking, no funny s—. Damn, I’mma get in trouble for this.”
Rihanna Previously Explained Why R9 Has Taken So Long
While fans have spent years wondering when Rihanna will finally release another album, the singer has been candid about her reluctance to put out music that doesn’t reflect the person and artist she has become.
During a February 2025 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Rihanna revealed that she had worked on material for her next album but ultimately rejected music that didn’t align with her creative evolution.
“I was just like, ‘No, it’s not me. It’s not right,’” she explained. “It’s not matching my growth. It’s not matching my evolution. I can’t do this. I can’t stand by this. I can’t perform this for a year on tour.”
“After a while, I looked at it, and I was like, this much time away from music needs to count for the next thing everyone hears. It has to count. It has to matter.”
The Fenty founder also noted that her fans had already demonstrated considerable patience and suggested that waiting a little longer would be worthwhile.
“After waiting eight years, you might as well just wait some more,” she joked.
