While the rest of Boston braced for the chilling winds and rain of this weekend’s nor’easter, the Jonas Brothers were heating up a crowded TD Garden on Friday night.
Just in time for the release of “Camp Rock 3” on Disney+ last month, the Jonas Brothers announced the “Burning Up Tour All Over Again,” a revival of the band’s 2008-2009 tour from its peak Disney era. Though initially marketed as three special standalone nights at Madison Square Garden, the Jonas Brothers surprised fans just days before the New York shows with a multi-city announcement, kicking off the official tour from Boston.
The roughly two-hour set, featuring the three brothers and nine backing band members and singers, was split into two parts: the first mirroring the 2008 tour setlist and the second spotlighting the post-reunion era.
“The year is 2008,” Joe Jonas could be heard narrating over video clips of the band’s younger days, which played on the screens at TD. “The hair is long. The jeans are tight. It’s 95 degrees out. Kevin’s wearing a scarf. We had no idea what we were doing, and that might’ve been the magic.”
Now 30-somethings, each with kids of their own, Joe, Nick, and Kevin are fully embracing the moments that propelled the band into global teen pop stardom. (Yes, that includes the mistakes, the embarrassments, and all the cringey style choices along the way.)
There’s something special about leaning into the bit, and the Jonas Brothers recognize that. From recreating the outfits they wore on the original tour to bringing back core memories like Joe and Kevin’s silly water drums routine, the band made the most of late 2000s nostalgia.
It’s been 13 years since the band broke up for roughly five years, and they have no problem poking fun at that time of their lives. They’re “Only Human,” after all.
Friday’s performance showcased just how much the brothers have grown, both individually and as a unit, in recent years. The appreciation for their fans was palpable, as they held eye contact and joked around with people in the crowd, acknowledged personalized signs, and even congratulated a couple that got engaged during “Lovebug.”
“We were reminiscing before the show about one of our favorite Boston memories back in 2006,” Nick Jonas told the crowd in between songs.
“We were booked to play New Year’s Eve right in front of [City] Hall here in Boston,” he said. “But I’m sure you know this — it was cold as hell on New Year’s Eve in Boston, but all 120 people that showed up really, really made us feel so loved. Boston has always been one of our favorite cities in the world to play in.”

We love you,” Jonas said before adding a caveat about the brothers’ baseball team allegiance as New Jersey natives. “And good luck on Tuesday night in the playoffs versus the Yankees.”
Though the first act was the focus of the show, the post-reunion act featured more recent bops such as “Waffle House” and “Sucker,” plus a moment for each of the brothers to showcase a solo song. For the band’s earliest fans, ending the show like this may not have delivered as strong a punch as “Burnin’ Up” did before the intermission. The pyrotechnics and the passionate scream-singing proved more fiery during that part of the show, but the second half reminded fans just how much the brothers have grown.
As the arena lights turned on at the end of the night, “Sweet Caroline” played the crowd out of TD Garden. A simple message also appeared on the stage screens, “Take care of each other. You are all Jonas family now.”
