The 185th meeting between Philadelphia (2–5) and Washington (1–4–1) came with both teams off to disappointing starts to the 2026 season.

And both teams needed this divisional matchup.

The Eagles capitalized on a 40-yard Jake Elliott field goal after a 40-yard drive on the first possession. The Eagles appeared to have a Drew Mukuba interception early—but a penalty overturned it. Mukuba then forced a fumble with a hit on Chigoziem Okonkwo, and Zack Baun recovered it.

McKee then found Barkley on a 24-yard wheel route. Saquon Barkley punched the ball in from the Wildcat for a 10–0 Eagles lead.

The Commanders took over from there.

With the Commanders‘ defense making Tanner McKee uncomfortable all night — Jayden Daniels drove the Commanders 27 yards for a 56-yard field goal. They then went on an 89-yard drive that culminated with an 8-yard connection between Daniels and Stefon Diggs to tie the game at 10. Another 29-yard drive ended in a 39-yard field goal, giving Washington the lead before halftime.

In the second half , McKee continued to be under duress. Washington added two field goals — the second of which came after a 56-yard connection between Treylon Burks and Daniels taking advantage of a lost McKee fumble.

In a bizarre situation on the ensuing drive — McKee appeared to escape the clutches to complete a pass on third and long to Elijah Mitchell. But it was ruled a sack , and on 4th and 25 ex-Eagle Rasul Douglas intercepted Tanner McKee. The Commanders scored on a one-yard Rachaad White touchdown run and then converted a 2-point conversion with Austin Ekeler.

Josh Harris’ Commanders went on a 27–0 run to end the game. Makai Lemon caught six passes for 57 yards. Saquon Barkley fought to stay on the field from a nagging hamstring injury — and finished with 13 carries for 30 yards and a score, playing in a limited capacity most of the second half.

The Eagles are the only NFL Team since 1968 to give up 100-yard rushing in the first eight games of the season.
