A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in Ayodhya on Thursday based on a complaint from Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust against eight individuals and unknown persons, including Ramashankar Yadav alias Tinnu, Manish Yadav, Luvkush Mishra, Karunesh Pandey, Rama Shankar Mishra, Subhash Srivastava, Anukalp Mishra and Avinash Shukla on charges of embezzlement, fraud, criminal conspiracy and breach of trust over missing donations in the Ram Temple Trust. The case has been registered following a preliminary investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and after a written complaint filed by Krishna Mohan, a member of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust. The case is registered under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 306, 316(5), 317(4), 317(5), 61 and 3(5).

Reacting to the FIR, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav described it as a glimpse of injustice, adding powerful culprits would be protected. “This will be a glimpse of injustice under BJP rule. The small will be hanged, the branches will be forgiven. The public is saying that first, under the pretext of SIT, all the evidence would have been cleared and it would have been decided which big fishes are to be saved and who is to be trapped, only after that the FIR is being lodged. It seems the report would have been prepared and given to the SIT first and the investigation would have been conducted accordingly, meaning the conclusion would have been drawn first,” he wrote on X.

Uttar Pradesh Congress unit president Ajay Rai alleged that the FIR was filed just to silence the anger of common devotee of Lord Ram. He added the State government was trying to save big people like Champat Rai. “Orders have been issued to register an FIR in the theft at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. But, in the FIR, driver and small culprits are named. The government is trying to protect real culprits like Champat Rai Bansal and other Trust members who oversaw the whole process of donation collection. Without their permission and active involvement such a massive theft cannot occur, amid so much security and the presence of so many police,” said Mr. Rai.

Tough action sought

Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) international president Alok Kumar on Wednesday called for a comprehensive investigation and an FIR into allegations of irregularities in donations collected for the Ram Janmabhoomi temple, saying those found guilty should face the strictest legal action.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on June 19 said “truth will prevail” after the SIT completed its probe into the allegations of embezzlement of the Ram temple Trust donations. He also appealed to political parties to refrain from making “baseless comments” until the investigation was over.
