The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to build depth on offense, announcing Monday the signing of former Arizona State University tight end Chamon Metayer as an undrafted free agent following the 2026 NFL Draft.
Metayer, a 6-foot-4, 255-pound tight end from North Miami, brings size, physicality, and proven production to Pittsburgh’s roster. Known for his ability to make tough catches in traffic and contribute as a blocker, he adds versatility to the Steelers’ tight end group.
The South Florida native began his collegiate career at University of Cincinnati before spending a brief period at University of Colorado. He ultimately found his rhythm at Arizona State, where he developed into a reliable starter and red-zone target.
In 2025, Metayer earned Second-Team All-Big 12 honors after recording 38 receptions for 375 yards and four touchdowns. Over his final two seasons with the Sun Devils, he totaled nine touchdowns, earning recognition for his strong hands, contested-catch ability, and well-rounded skill set.
The move to Pittsburgh also reunites Metayer with fellow Arizona State standout Max Iheanachor, who was selected by the Steelers in the first round of the 2026 draft. The duo now has the opportunity to continue building on their on-field chemistry at the professional level.
Metayer’s journey to the NFL reflects perseverance and development. Once considered one of the top athletic prospects to emerge from South Florida high school football, he has steadily worked his way into a professional opportunity while proudly representing his Haitian-American heritage.
As training camp approaches, Metayer will compete for a spot on the Steelers’ roster, with the potential to contribute on offense and special teams. With his size, skill set, and determination, he enters Pittsburgh with a strong opportunity to carve out a role and continue his football journey at the next level.
