Nestled away at a secret location 15 minutes North-East of the Adelaide CBD lies The Wonder Emporium, a quaint twenty-seat theatre full of magic, wonder and nostalgia. World-class magician, who aptly calls himself ‘The Unusualist’, Raymond Crowe invites a select few each Saturday night to enter his unique, spell-binding world.

Over the course of seventy minutes Crowe takes you on a journey through his greatest up-close illusions and routines. Audiences are transfixed as Crowe showcases his incredible skill in sleight-of-hand, puppetry, comedy, misdirection and old-world charm. It would ruin the magic to go into too much detail about what we experienced as it would take away from the mysterious world Raymond has created, but rest assured, you are in for a real treat. 

Crowe is the consummate performer. His approach to theatre is steeped in Vaudeville traditions. He 

 describes his style as being an ‘Unusualist’, which is exactly the premise behind each of his carefully crafted routines. Using mirrors, lighting and projection, Crowe has crafted incredible routines that spellbind.  

The whole experience is cloaked in mystery. At the time of booking you don’t know the venue location, other than the venue is a 15 minute drive North-East of the CBD. On the day of the performance you receive the address but are sworn to secrecy. On arrival you are met by Smiley Pete, who greets each guest and sends you through the magic door down a garden path where you are met by another Wonder Emporium employee, Julie, who talks you through the evening’s events. The Wonder Emporium itself is a step back in time, heavily inspired by old-world circus and Vaudeville. The whole evening is full of nostalgia; Crowe awakens the child within you and the impossible becomes possible. 

With only a limited number of tickets per performance, Raymond Crowe’s Wonder Emporium is the hot-ticket this winter. Crowe is a world-class performer and we are extremely lucky to have him based here in South Australia. If you are looking for a fun and different night out, look no further than this intimate performance.
