Pakistan Set to Compete in Squash World Championship

Pakistan squash stars Noor Zaman, Ashab Irfan, and Asim Khan will feature in the PSA World Championships 2026 in Giza, Egypt, as they prepare to begin their campaigns against higher-ranked opponents.

Pakistan’s top-ranked player, Noor Zaman, will face Egypt’s Adam Hawal, ranked world No. 89, in the opening round. Noor secured his place in the main draw through direct qualification based on his PSA world ranking, following consistent performances on the professional circuit.

World No. 48 Ashab Irfan is set to take on Switzerland’s Nicolas Mueller, ranked No. 31, in his first-round match. Like Noor, Ashab also qualified directly for the main draw owing to his position in the PSA rankings.

In another fixture, Asim Khan will begin his campaign against Wales’ Joel Makin, the world No. 6, in what is expected to be a tough contest.

Asim secured qualification through the Asian Qualifying Event, where he booked his spot by winning the regional tournament. He defeated Malaysia’s Joachim Chuah in the final, earning Pakistan its third entry in the championship.

The tournament will run from May 8 to May 16 and will feature the world’s top squash players competing for one of the sport’s most prestigious titles.

Pakistan’s participation with three players in the main draw reflects a positive development for the country’s squash landscape. However, all three players face challenging opening-round opponents, making their progress in the tournament a difficult task.
