Meet Alec Barber, the man behind Mother’s East Tavern coming soon to South Boston

A new neighborhood spot is in the works for Southie!

According to The Boston Globe, restaurateur Alec Barber is returning to his roots and getting ready to open Mother’s East Tavern in the former Telegraph Hill space on Dorchester Street, with a target opening in May.

Barber, who grew up in Jamaica Plain and has worked in restaurants across the country—including Los Angeles and New Orleans—is teaming up with his wife, Laura Fryer, and chef-partner David Quinlan on the new spot.

The goal? Think old-school neighborhood vibe—not trendy, not overcomplicated. Barber told the Globe he’s inspired by the kind of classic Boston bars you’d see in the movies.

After time spent out west, Barber said the move back to the Boston area was also about raising his family here and reconnecting with the lifestyle he grew up with.

As for the menu, think classic comfort pub food – “but not frozen and reheated stuff.”

If all goes as planned, Mother’s East Tavern could be pouring pints and welcoming neighbors sometime next month—adding another place to try in the expanding landscape of

This legendary Southie sub shop get’s a mention in the Globe Article.  See Below:

What’s your guilty pleasure food?

And another neighborhood shoutout
