Mario Hernandez, 32, faces multiple charges in connection with a car crash that killed two people last November, the DA said.
A Brockton man was ordered held on bail on charges connected to a November crash that killed two people, prosecutors announced.
Mario Hernandez, 32, is charged with one count of motor vehicle homicide, operation under the influence of liquor, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and a red light violation, according to the office of the Plymouth County District Attorney.
Hernandez pleaded not guilty to all charges on Tuesday, and was held on $5,000 bail, according to the DA. Bail conditions include remaining alcohol free and submitting to four alcohol screens daily using a SCRAM device. He is also forbidden from driving, the DA said.
The Commonwealth had requested that Hernandez be held on $100,000 cash bail, the DA said.
On Nov. 14, Brockton police received a report of a car crash at the intersection of Centre Street and Quincy Street, the DA said.
Emergency crews found a 2019 Infiniti Q50 engulfed in flames with the two passengers still trapped inside. The second car, a white box truck, was flipped over onto the driver’s side, the DA’s office said.
All passengers were transported to local hospitals. One of the Infiniti passengers, Shane Spillane, 26, was taken to Boston Medical Center–South where he was pronounced dead, prosecutors said.
More than a week later, another passenger, Justin Pratt, 24, died from his injuries, the DA said.
Surveillance footage shows the Infiniti heading west on Centre Street, and the box truck traveling north on Quincy Street, the DA said.
At the intersection, the Infiniti is seen hitting the driver’s side of the truck. The box truck was flipped onto its side, and the Infiniti was engulfed in flames, the DA said.
Hernandez is scheduled to appear in court on June 2 for a pre-trial hearing, court documents show.
