India’s biggest feminist: Kangana’s speech praises PM Modi, targets Congress

BJP MP Kangana Ranaut praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, calling him the “only flag bearer of feminism” while speaking during a debate on the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026.

Participating in the discussion in the lower house, Ranaut said, “The daughters of India today believe that there is no bigger feminist than the Prime Minister,” as she backed the government’s push for women’s reservation.

‘IN A HURRY TO DELIVER JUSTICE TO WOMEN’

Defending the government’s pace, Ranaut said the Prime Minister was acting decisively to ensure long-pending reforms.

“What didn’t happen in 60 years, he achieved in 10 — be it pucca houses, providing gas cylinders, or inducting women into defence forces,” she said.

“One thing is certain: he is in a hurry to give justice to women.”

Reiterating her praise, she added, “He is the flag bearer of feminism.”

TARGETS CONGRESS OVER DELAY

Ranaut also launched a sharp attack on the Congress, questioning why the party had not implemented women’s reservations during its decades in power.

Referring to remarks by Sonia Gandhi, she said, “Sonia Gandhi says why are they (BJP) in a hurry to bring the bill. Should we be like you and let it hang for 30 years?”

Her comments came as Parliament debated three bills, including the Constitution amendment to mandate 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

HIGHLIGHTS LOW REPRESENTATION

Ranaut also pointed to the low representation of women in state legislatures, citing Himachal Pradesh as an example.

“In Himachal Pradesh, we have 68 MLAs of which only one is a woman. Other states have a similar representation of 8-9%,” she said, arguing that structural reform is necessary.

BILLS INTRODUCED IN LOK SABHA

The debate followed the introduction of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, aimed at implementing 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies.

Alongside it, the government also introduced the Delimitation Bill and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill to extend the quota framework to Delhi, Puducherry and Jammu and Kashmir.
