Madhuri Dixit Nene knows how to work a sari. From wearing heritage weaves to sporting its contemporary interpretations—she’s given us many headline-making looks. Enough has been said about her sari looks during the promotions of her movie, Maa Behen (2026), which was entirely built around a sari—much like what her character in the movie reaches for, too. But unlike the simplicity of her on-screen personality, hers ranged from a pre-draped denim sari by New Delhi-based designer Mayyur Girotra to naturally-dyed drape coloured with discarded temple flowers from label Sew Much Better. Recently, she joined many Bollywood celebrities in celebrating actor Anshula Kapoor’s wedding to her longtime beau Rohit Thakkar, where she arrived at a sari, naturally, to dress for the event. Reverting to classics with a rani pink sari from designer Anita Dongre, she proved how enduring styles can be impactful.

The fuchsia georgette sari featured an all-over jaal pattern accentuated with buttis and finished with cascading tassels along the edge of the pallu. Showcasing a rich mix of handcrafted techniques, the drape was embellished with badla embroidery using flattened gold wires and pearl embroidery. Sequin-embroidered elephant and floral motifs, outlined by a gota patti trim made up the border of the sari. Dixit Nene paired it with a sleeveless matching blouse featuring a collar with a straight across neckline. For accessories, stylist Sukriti Grover chose a pair of polki chandelier earrings and a stack of bangles from Mumbai-based Sanzany Jewels, some bangles from Kolkata-based jeweller Prabhudayal Soni & Sons Jewellers and a statement ring set with pink gemstones from Mumbai-based jewellery label Jewels by Nupur & Shivani. A clutch by accessories designer Meera Mahadevia added the finishing touches. For the beauty look, makeup artist Billy Manik created a luminous base with smoky eyes, dramatic lashes, pink lips and a matching pink bindi, while hairstylist Sheetal Khan styled her hair in a textured bun wrapped with gajra.

This is not the first time Dixit Nene has turned to Anita Dongre for an occasion wear moment. On several occasions, the actor has worn the designer’s creations. In 2023, she wore a Banarasi silk sari handwoven by master artisans in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The drape featured foliage motifs woven across the fabric—a nod to her wildlife conservation fundraiser, Rewild. For a public appearance the same year, she wore floral embroidered lehenga in shades of brass, rose pink and blue.
