The two Boston men face charges of assault to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, court records show.

Two Boston men were arrested in connection with a Mattapan shooting last month that left one person dead and four others hospitalized, the U.S. Marshals Service said Wednesday.

The shooting occurred around 1:45 a.m. June 27 on Blue Hill Avenue, where officers found five people suffering from gunshot wounds, the Boston Police Department said

Brockton resident Jose Dantes, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene, while three other victims were taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

Authorities also noted a fifth victim went to an out-of-city hospital on his own before being transferred to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Charges were brought last week against two Boston men, Cerron Wilcox-Buford and Laquan Burris. Wilcox-Buford was arrested the following day in Jamaica Plain, the U.S. Marshals Service said in a press release.

Authorities said Burris turned himself in on Wednesday at the Dorchester District Court “as a result of investigative efforts” and was subsequently taken into custody.

Burris faces a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, while Wilcox-Buford is charged with armed assault to murder and carrying a firearm without a license, court records show.

“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families impacted by this tragic act of violence, and we extend our sincere wishes for a swift and complete recovery to those who were injured,” Dennis Matulewicz, U.S. Marshal for the District of Massachusetts, said in the release.

Court records show that Wilcox-Buford entered a plea of not guilty during his arraignment on July 10 and was ordered held on $1 million bail. He was subsequently sent to Suffolk County Jail after failing to post the required amount.

Burris also entered a plea of not guilty to his charges during an arraignment Wednesday morning. He was committed to Suffolk County Jail after failing to post $250,000 bail, according to court records.

Both defendants are scheduled to appear in court Aug. 4 for separate hearings, court records indicate.

Attorney information for the two men was not immediately available Wednesday afternoon.
