Emerging designers looking to build a commercially viable fashion label can now apply for a new incubation programme launched in Dubai.
The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, known as Dubai Culture, has introduced the Made in Dubai Fashion Sprint in partnership with the Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation, or DIDI. The eight-weekend programme will select 15 Emirati and UAE-based resident fashion designers for practical training, specialist mentorship and access to professionals working across the local fashion industry.
Applications opened on 3 August and will close on 28 August 2026. The programme will then run over eight weekends from 19 September to 8 November 2026.
Unlike a conventional design course focused primarily on creative development, the Made in Dubai Fashion Sprint will address the commercial and operational work required to establish a sustainable fashion business. Participants will explore areas such as brand strategy, financial planning, product development, production, pricing, marketing and retail preparation.
The initiative is aimed at designers who already have a clear vision for a fashion brand, whether they are refining an existing label or developing an emerging concept into a business that can enter the market.
What Is the Made in Dubai Fashion Sprint?
The Made in Dubai Fashion Sprint is described as Dubai Culture’s first-of-its-kind fashion incubation programme.
It has been developed to help designers move beyond the initial concept stage and create brands with the structure, products and commercial direction needed for long-term growth. The programme combines hands-on workshops with individual and group mentorship, industry engagement and tailored feedback.
Rather than separating creativity from business, the Fashion Sprint will encourage participants to work on both sides of their labels simultaneously. Designers will be expected to strengthen their creative identities while considering how their collections will be produced, priced, marketed and presented to retailers.
The weekend-based structure may also make the programme more accessible to designers who are already managing labels, freelance projects or other professional commitments.
By the conclusion of the Fashion Sprint, participants should have a clearer understanding of their brand proposition, target market, production requirements and potential route into retail.
Who Can Apply?
The programme will accept 15 Emirati and UAE-based resident fashion designers.
Applicants must have a clear vision for developing a fashion label. They may already operate an emerging brand that requires stronger commercial direction, or they may have a well-developed concept that they are ready to turn into a market-ready business.
Submissions will be assessed according to several criteria, including:
- Craftsmanship
- Intent to operate a business
- Production readiness
- A clear vision for growth and expansion
These requirements indicate that the Fashion Sprint is intended for designers who are prepared to engage with the practical realities of building a brand, rather than applicants seeking a general introduction to fashion design.
Designers have until 28 August 2026 to submit their applications.
What Will the Selected Designers Learn?
The Made in Dubai Fashion Sprint will cover several areas that can determine whether a fashion concept becomes a functioning business.
Participants will receive guidance in:
- Brand identity and positioning
- Brand strategy
- Product development
- Financial planning
- Marketing and audience development
- Production and manufacturing
- Pricing
- Retail readiness
- Business growth
- Market-entry strategies
These topics address some of the most difficult challenges facing emerging designers. A strong collection may attract attention, but a sustainable label also needs realistic pricing, reliable production, a defined customer, consistent positioning and a strategy for reaching the market.
Participants will receive tailored feedback on their collections and commercial direction throughout the programme. They will also take part in one-to-one and group mentoring sessions led by specialists and industry experts.
The programme is expected to give designers a closer look at how the local industry operates, including the relationships between designers, manufacturers, ateliers, retailers and other fashion professionals.
The Programme Ends With an Industry Showcase
The eight-weekend learning journey will conclude with a final showcase.
During the event, participants will present their collections and brand strategies to leading professionals from the fashion sector. This will allow the designers to demonstrate how their concepts developed during the programme while receiving exposure to people with direct experience in production, retail and brand growth.
The showcase also gives the programme a defined commercial outcome. Participants will not simply complete a series of workshops; they will be expected to communicate their creative identity and explain how their brand can function in the market.
For an emerging designer, that ability can be as important as the collection itself. Retailers, collaborators and potential business partners need to understand who a brand serves, where it belongs in the market and how it plans to grow.
Supporting Dubai’s Local Fashion Industry
The Made in Dubai Fashion Sprint is not only focused on the development of its 15 participants. It also aims to strengthen Dubai’s wider fashion production ecosystem.
Designers will be encouraged to engage with local ateliers and manufacturers as they develop their products. This could create stronger links between emerging labels and the businesses responsible for turning designs into finished collections.
Dubai is already a major destination for international fashion, luxury retail and industry events. However, building a stronger design economy also requires support for locally developed brands, production expertise and creative businesses.
The Fashion Sprint is intended to contribute to that goal by preparing designers to compete locally, regionally and internationally while keeping more of the development and production process connected to Dubai.
The programme forms part of Dubai Culture’s work to advance the emirate’s cultural and creative industries. It also supports the objectives of the Dubai Design Sector Strategy 2033, which seeks to strengthen Dubai’s position as a global destination for designers, creatives and industry experts.
Turning Creative Ideas Into Commercial Brands
Khulood Khoory, Director of the Design Department at Dubai Culture, said the fashion sector can transform ideas into products and brands that generate cultural and economic value.
She explained that the Made in Dubai Fashion Sprint provides designers with a practical pathway to refine their brands, strengthen their creative identities and improve their readiness for the market.
That practical focus is one of the programme’s most significant features. Emerging designers frequently need more than creative recognition. They also need the skills to plan collections, manage costs, coordinate production, position products and present a convincing case to retailers.
By bringing these areas together, the programme is designed to help participants build brands that can continue operating beyond an initial launch or debut collection.

Why the Fashion Sprint Matters
The Made in Dubai Fashion Sprint arrives at a time when the emirate is working to expand its role from a major fashion marketplace into a centre for design, production and brand development.
The initiative gives a small group of designers access to structured support during a critical stage of their growth. Instead of treating business development as separate from the creative process, it places production, pricing, marketing and retail planning alongside design.
Only 15 designers will be selected, making the application process competitive. For those chosen, however, the programme could provide the commercial knowledge, professional connections and industry feedback needed to turn a promising concept into a stronger fashion business.
Applications for the Made in Dubai Fashion Sprint remain open until 28 August 2026.
