Josh Heuston is shaping up to be a favourite in the booktok-to-screen pipeline. While his next role isn’t confirmation of his involvement in the Fourth Wing adaptation (sorry, you’ll have to wait a little longer for that) it’s arguably something just as exciting. The Australian actor has been hand-picked to lead Prime Video’s adaptation of Lauren Asher’s bestselling novel, Throttled.
And yes, while we’re still bummed that he won’t be back for season two of Off Campus, we suppose this softens the blow a little bit. Here’s what you need to know about Throttled.
What is it about?
If you haven’t read the book (and you should), Throttled centres around an up-and-coming Formula 1 driver, Noah Slade, and his romance with Maya Alatorre. And because, of course, nothing can ever be straightforward, their relationship is forbidden, with Maya the sister of Noah’s fiercest FI competitor.
Naturally, the two get together anyway, but not without a few consequences.
There are several books in Asher’s Dirty Air series – Throttled, Collided, Wrecked and Redeemed – but judging by the name, this film will hone in on the first one. Thankfully, that leaves the possibility of a sequel (or three) wide open.
Who is involved?
It goes without saying that Heuston will play Noah, but his romantic counterpart and racing rival are both yet to be cast. We’ll keep you updated when that hapens.
However, we have a little more information about who is involved behind the scenes. Nzingha Stewart is set to direct – who has previously worked on another Prime series, Daisy Jones & The Six. She’ll be working on a script adapted by Melissa Osborne, who also penned the script for Prime’s My Fault: London.
And for anyone worried the film won’t be faithful to the books, you can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that Asher is on board as one of the executive producers. She even told People, “I think fans of the series will be just as excited as me when they see some of my favourite scenes from the book playing out on the screen.”
When will it come out?
Sadly, that’s another piece of information we’re still waiting on. For the most part, Prime Video works quick, so we’re hoping for a release date some time in the second half of 2027. Watch this space.
