Jaylen Brown’s trade quotes while at the World Cup: One of the more notable celebrity appearances at Thursday’s World Cup quarterfinal matchup at Gillette Stadium between France and Morocco was none other than ex-Celtic Jaylen Brown.

Brown, who was recently part of a shocking blockbuster trade from the Celtics to the 76ers, received a warm welcome from a packed crowd when he was shown on the stadium’s big screen during the game.

The 29-year-old spent time with influencer Darren Jason Watkins Jr. (more popularly known as “IShowSpeed”). The two engaged in conversation on a live stream, with the recent trade inevitably coming up.

“I just got traded,” Brown explained.

“They packed me up,” he continued. “It’s a crazy business. Don’t become a basketball player. There’s no loyalty, there’s no love.”

Asked what happened that led to the trade, Brown referenced the general surprise that greeted the deal from around the basketball world.

“It’s a good question. It’s a real good question. I think a lot of people would want to hear that,” Brown said. “They’re asking that question right now. I don’t know.”

“They packed me up,” he joked. “Sayonara, say I’m out of here.”

Brown also had to explain to the YouTuber that Paul George (who he listed as one of the 76ers’ supposed players who Brown would be joining on the roster) had actually been traded to Boston in the deal.

“He’s gone, bro.”

Trivia: Jaylen Brown was the 2024 NBA Finals MVP. He was the sixth Celtics player to win the distinction (it was first awarded in 1969). Can you name the other five Boston players to win at least one Finals MVP?

(Answer at the bottom.)

Hint: Their initials are JH, JW, CM, LB, and PP.

Scores and schedules:

The Red Sox defeated the White Sox 2-1 on Thursday, extending their winning streak to six games, currently the longest in Major League Baseball.

In the World Cup, France defeated Morocco 2-0 in the quarterfinal matchup. It was the final game to be played in Foxborough.

Today, Spain plays Belgium in the second World Cup quarterfinal game, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. The winner will play France in the semifinals.

More from Boston.com:

Red Sox surge continues: The Red Sox have been the hottest team in baseball since June 25, and that continued on Thursday thanks in large part to Caleb Durbin’s two-run home run.

Haaland’s American experience: Norwegian striker Erling Haaland has been having fun during the North American World Cup (aside from scoring goals).

On this day: In 1999, the U.S. women’s soccer team defeated China in a penalty kick shootout to win the World Cup. It remains one of the iconic moments in American sports, as Brandi Chastain — who had been cut from the 1995 World Cup roster, but worked her way back into the lineup — scored the winning penalty.

Watched by a crowd of more than 90,000 at the Rose Bowl (and with a television audience that peaked at 40 million viewers), it’s still regarded as a foundational event for women’s sports and soccer in the U.S.

Daily highlight: From any angle (but especially the one seen below), Kylian Mbappe’s breakthrough goal for France at Gillette Stadium on Thursday was a masterpiece.

Trivia answer: John Havlicek, Jo Jo White, Cedric Maxwell, Larry Bird, Paul Pierce
