Hyderabad Kingsmen kept their dream run alive in the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) after defeating Multan Sultans by eight wickets in Eliminator 1 at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, booking a place in the next knockout clash against Islamabad United.
Chasing 160 in a high-pressure contest, Hyderabad made light work of the target and crossed the line with 28 balls to spare. The win not only ended Multan’s campaign but also sent the tournament’s new entrants into Eliminator 2, where a place in the final will be up for grabs.
The Kingsmen suffered an early setback when captain Marnus Labuschagne fell for 11 with just 18 runs on the board. But that was as good as it got for Multan.
Usman Khan and Maaz Sadaqat then took control of the chase with a brilliant 92-run partnership for the second wicket that completely shifted the game in Hyderabad’s favor. Usman played the more aggressive hand, hammering 64 off 35 balls with eight fours and three sixes before becoming one of only two wickets to fall.
Sadaqat remained equally destructive at the other end and stayed unbeaten on 64 off 33 deliveries, smashing four fours and four sixes. He was later joined by Saim Ayub, who added an unbeaten 15 as Hyderabad wrapped up the chase in the 16th over.
Earlier, Multan Sultans struggled to build momentum after being put in to bat. Steve Smith fell cheaply for 13 in the third over, and the innings never fully recovered from there. Sahibzada Farhan, Josh Philippe, Ashton Turner and Arafat Minhas also departed without making major contributions as Multan slipped into trouble early.
Shan Masood was the lone bright spot for the Sultans. The left-hander held the innings together with an unbeaten 69 off 46 balls, hitting four fours and four sixes, while Mohammad Nawaz chipped in with 19. Still, Multan could only manage 159/9 in their 20 overs.
Hyderabad’s bowling unit delivered as a group, with Mohammad Ali, Hunain Shah and Akif Javed claiming two wickets each. Glenn Maxwell and Saim Ayub also picked up one wicket apiece to keep Multan under pressure throughout the innings.
After squeezing into the playoffs, Hyderabad have now taken another major step forward and will head into Eliminator 2 with momentum firmly on their side.
