Two of the top teams in the AFC last year are set to battle in an early season test.
The defending conference champion New England Patriots will face the reigning AFC South champion Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3. Both teams are 1-1, with Jacksonville winning its opener and New England victorious in Week 2.
The Patriots got in the win column with a suffocating defensive performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Winning 20-3, Mike Vrabel’s squad sacked Aaron Rodgers four times and forced two turnovers in its home opener. It was another up-and-down effort by Drake Maye and the offense, but the return of TreVeyon Henderson proved to be enough to win without injured receiver A.J. Brown.
Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars followed up their Week 1 win over the Cleveland Browns with a disappointing 20-13 loss at the Denver Broncos. Jacksonville pulled ahead 13-3 in the third quarter before allowing 17 unanswered points in the final 20 minutes. The Jaguars have never beaten the Patriots twice in a row, but a victory Sunday would break that streak after Jacksonville’s 32-16 London win over New England in 2024.
