How Meral Jibouri Turned Heritage Ingredient Into a Modern Pantry Brand

Meral Jibouri’s Instagram feed doesn’t shout. Soft light, minimal narration, a handful of ingredients on the counter, the Dubai-based creator built her following on recipes that let dates, tahini, and olive oil speak for themselves. That same instinct is now a pantry brand: From the Ground Foods, launched with a single product and a clear philosophy about what belongs in a kitchen.

Meral Jibouri and Her Passion for Food and Culture

Meral’s path to food didn’t start with a love of cooking. It started with adopting a predominantly plant-based diet, and with it, a renewed appreciation for the ingredients already around her: dates, tahini, olive oil, pantry staples she’d grown up with but had stopped really seeing.

Once she started paying attention to them again, they became the whole point: simple, well-chosen ingredients, not techniques or trends. That instinct for working with a handful of ingredients well is also what took her to the top of Chopped Arabia, where she won Season 3 cooking under pressure with whatever she was given. It’s the same skill that shapes how she cooks and shares recipes now, just without the clock running.

Meral Jibouri and a Different Way of Creating

That same restraint shows up in how Meral makes content. Her videos are short-form and largely wordless, soft instrumental music, minimal narration, the camera staying on the process rather than cutting away to explain it.

It’s a deliberate departure from the tutorial format most food content follows, built instead around watching something simple come together. She shares this across Instagram Reels and YouTube, where the format has found an audience drawn less to trends and more to the pace of it.

Meral Jibouri and the Story of From the Ground Foods

That focus on health, plant-based cooking, and heritage ingredients didn’t stay confined to the screen. It led Meral to found From the Ground Foods, a UAE-based pantry brand built on the same principle that shapes her content: fewer, better ingredients, chosen for quality over convenience, nourishing and flavorful, and still practical enough for daily cooking.

Dates have shaped Meral’s cooking more than any other ingredient, but she found the traditional formats limiting at times for how people actually eat and drink today. Classic date syrup tends to be thick and overpowering in taste; date paste works in baking but not in a cup of coffee or tea.

Golden Date Syrup, the brand’s first product, was built to sit between the two, a small-batch, 100% date syrup made to dissolve cleanly into hot and cold drinks, breakfast dishes, and desserts, without losing what makes dates worth using in the first place.

It’s the first release in what Meral describes as a longer-term project: a modern kitchen brand built around ingredient quality, calm cooking, and a more intentional relationship with food, one pantry staple at a time.
