According to the book’s synopsis, she’ll revisit her upbringing in Brooklyn, her family’s move to Iowa where she was one of only four Black students at school, the racism and colorism she faced while building her career, and the complicated family dynamics that influenced her early years.
“The Sound of Purpose is an intimate unpacking of my life, a healing journey inward, comforted by the signs and sounds that led me to self-love and safety,” said Long (who recently celebrated her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame) in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.
