Station Arcade, the pedestrian link between Adelaide Railway Station and Hindley Street, is set for a major transformation. Plans are now emerging to make the long-standing Hindley Street thoroughfare a destination in its own right.
Set right in the heart of the West End, the arcade is in the early stages of a reimagining with a fresh mix of retail, office spaces and late-night hospitality. It’s a site that no shortage of commuters and city workers pass through every day, but far fewer actually stop in.
Behind the project is a local team with strong ties to Adelaide’s hospitality and nightlife scene, focused on changing the arcade from shortcut to destination.
“The vision is pretty simple, we want to turn Station Arcade into a place people actually come to, not just pass through,” says project representative Mitchell Yaniski. “Something that feels curated, a bit more modern, and actually worth spending time in.”
Early signs of that shift are already taking shape. New food-focused concepts are moving in, including premium dessert spot Apollo Scoops, with several more tenancies already filled and set to be revealed progressively as the rollout continues.
It’s not just the ground floor getting attention either. Office spaces upstairs are undergoing a full refurbishment, with modern upgrades for the entire building, not just its street presence.
“There’s a strong on-site presence helping support the overall operation of the space as it evolves,” Mitchell adds, pointing to the recent arrival of national security company HSA Australia, which has established its head office within the arcade.
“The arcade’s always had a good location, it just hasn’t really evolved with everything happening around it,” he says. “So the exciting part is taking something people have kind of overlooked and turning it into somewhere people actually want to be.”
That ambition extends well beyond daytime trade.
“Station Arcade sits right in the middle of Hindley Street, which is one of the busiest nightlife strips in Adelaide, but it’s never really reflected that energy.”
“With the redevelopment, the idea is for the front section of the arcade to come alive at night as well, with a mix of late-trading food, bars and hospitality options that give people a reason to actually step inside, not just walk past,” Mitchell says.
“It’s about making the arcade feel like a natural extension of the street at night, rather than somewhere that shuts down.”
Those late-night elements are expected to begin rolling out in the earlier stages of the redevelopment. “We’re aiming for that side of things to start coming online toward late 2026,” Mitchell says.
Mitchell confirms the project represents a significant investment into the future of the space, with extensive works happening throughout the building.
“It’s not just cosmetic, we’re putting a lot into the building itself, with extensive refurbishments happening throughout, inside, out and above to really bring the whole place up to a new standard.”
The transformation could play a key role in lifting this stretch of Hindley Street, turning Station Arcade into a destination that finally matches its location.
