HBO turns Wynyard tunnels into HOUSE OF THE DRAGON lair

Sydney fans were invited to step into the world of Westeros over the weekend as HBO Max transformed the historic Wynyard tunnels into an immersive House of the Dragon experience ahead of the fantasy drama’s third season premiere.

Across 19 and 20 June, visitors journeyed through The Dragon’s Lair, entering smoke filled passages inspired by the Tunnels of the Red Keep after beginning their adventure at Wynyard Park beneath the imposing skull of Balerion.

Along the way, guests encountered shadowy rat catchers and looming dragons before coming face to face with an ancient beast, with the experience culminating in a dramatic ascent to the Iron Throne.

Adding to the excitement, House of the Dragon star Steve Toussaint, who plays Lord Corlys Velaryon, surprised fans when he explored The Dragon’s Lair on Friday morning ahead of the season’s return.

Sasha Mackie, Senior Director, Marketing Australia and New Zealand at HBO Max, said the experience was designed to put fans at the centre of the action while celebrating the show’s return.

“The Dragon’s Lair was created as a truly fan first experience, a chance for people to step inside the world they love and feel the power, danger and thrill of Westeros come alive around them.”

The celebrations extend beyond the tunnels, with HBO Max partnering with HelloFresh on a range of limited edition House of the Dragon inspired recipes, while new and returning subscribers can also access 31 per cent off Standard and Premium monthly plans for six months when signing up before 16 July.

House of the Dragon season three premieres today at 11.00am AEST, only on HBO Max.
