Fujairah will host a new series of badminton development camps as the UAE continues work on its long-term Olympic pathway programme.
The camps will take place at Zayed Sports Complex and will involve 80 boys and girls in the under-13 and under-15 age groups.
The players were selected after the Badminton Talent Championship, which was organised by the UAE Committee for Sports Talent Care and Support of National Sports in February.
The programme is being run by the committee in cooperation with the UAE Badminton Federation.
It forms part of a wider plan to identify young players through local competitions, then move them into more structured training camps. The aim is to give promising Emirati athletes a clearer route towards continental, international and Olympic competition.
Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum, Assistant Undersecretary for the Sports Development and Competitiveness Sector at the Ministry of Sports and Chairman of the UAE Committee for Sports Talent Care and Support of National Sports, said the project was part of a wider effort to invest in young athletes.
“We are proud to support this national project, which reflects the UAE’s vision of investing in sports talents from an early age,” Sheikh Suhail said.
“In cooperation with the UAE Badminton Federation, we are working to provide an advanced training environment that contributes to gradually developing players’ skills according to internationally recognised technical and sports practices, while enhancing their readiness to compete at the highest levels in the future.”
The camps also support the UAE Badminton Federation’s Olympic Pathway 2036 and 2040 programme.
The 2036 programme focuses on under-13 and under-15 players, while the 2040 plan will work with younger age groups, including under-9 and under-11 players. That younger group will focus on basic skills and long-term player development.
The technical programme in Fujairah will include physical, technical and tactical training. An international head coach and three assistant coaches will oversee the sessions, with players monitored during the camps.
All sessions will be held at Zayed Sports Complex, which has Olympic-standard facilities.
