Veteran physician Venkitaramanan dead – The Hindu

C.S. Venkitaramanan, 76, a veteran family physician who served the people of Chittur for several decades, passed away on Thursday following a brief illness after suffering a cerebral bleed.

Fondly known as Dr. Ramanu, he continued the legacy of a clinic founded in 1923 by his grandfather, Ramaswamy, at Chittur’s Thekkegramam. In 2000, he renamed it Chaithanya Clinic and remained committed to community care throughout his life.

A gifted singer-composer, Dr. Ramanu created numerous devotional songs in praise of Krishna, which reflected his spiritual inclinations beyond medicine.

He completed his MBBS from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, and later served with the Oman Ministry of Health from 1978 to 1991, before returning to continue his practice in Kerala.

He is survived by his wife, Girija, sons, Arun (an intensivist in the U.K.) and Arvind (a gastroenterologist at Avitis Hospital, Nenmara). The funeral will be held at Chittur at 1 p.m. on Friday.
