Each year, select few designers—among the best in Indian fashion—assemble for a week in New Delhi to showcase their couture collections. These collections, an actualisation of months of working hard alongside research teams, pattern cutters, artisans and tailors, then go on to make the most defining bridal trends for the wedding season that follows next. This year was no different. At the 2026 India Couture Week, couturiers brought their signature design elements to the runway, but with a fresh twist and a new spin on classics that have forever sustained in the ever-evolving scenography of Indian bridal fashion.
It could be argued that there is very little room for re-inventing lehengas, saris and salwar kameez styles that have dominated the wedding wear landscape and will continue to do so. Sure, we have fused it with the carefreeness and convenience of a gown, pants, and separates—a lot of which form the essentials of our everyday wardrobes. But the constraints of working within the strict rules of Indian wear has not stopped designers from experimenting with blouses, which have evolved from simple scoop-neck styles into designs that are a work of art on their own. Once viewed as support staff for lehengas and saris, they are now—to borrow from Gen-Z parlance—main characters in event dressing. And the stunning designs we spotted at ICW 2026 prove just that.
