Kutumba Bar and Lounge has officially opened in Unley, bringing locals an authentic slice of Nepal right to their doorstep.
Located along King William Road, the new venue marks an Adelaide expansion for the team behind Canberra favourite Party Time Nepal.
The duo behind the venue, Prashant and Barsha Baral Prassain, started from built a strong following in Canberra after launching their catering business in 2021. Their reputation grew further in 2024 with the launch of a food truck, which continues to operate as a franchise and helped introduce even more people to their food.
Now, they’ve created a warm, welcoming new restaurant that locals are already making their new go-to.
“In just our first week on King William Road, we’ve already started building a strong base of regular customers and receiving very positive feedback,” Prashant said.
“We’re especially delighted to have received 15 genuine five-star reviews so far, which has been a huge motivation for our whole team.”
“Kutumba is designed to offer an aesthetic and welcoming vibe for everyone, whether it’s for a quick coffee, relaxed lunch, dinner with friends and family, or evening drinks.
Inside, the venue leans into a relaxed lounge-style feel, designed for everything from quick lunches and coffees to long dinners, drinks and weekend music.
“We’re also introducing live music every weekend from 7pm, which has been creating a really enjoyable atmosphere for guests.”
Standout menu favourites have been Aloo Nimki, Laphing, Chilli Momo, Spicy Chicken Wings, Kutumba Thali Set and their daily specials section, which changes regularly.
The team has also kept its focus on fresh ingredients, including house-made chutneys prepared with tomatoes and spices rather than pre-made alternatives.
“Guests are also enjoying starting their visit with Mango Lassi or traditional Masala Tea, and later in the day moving into our classic Kutumba cocktails and mocktails after 3pm,” Prashant said.
“We’ve had especially great feedback on our cocktail and mocktail menu. Alongside that, our Nepalese beers, Barasinghe, Nepal Ice, and Mustang, have quickly become customer favourites as well.”
Barsha is the mastermind behind all the recipes, with consistency described as her cooking superpower.
On top of the great flavours, the customers have also praised Kutumba for being affordable and good value..
“We continue to fine-tune and adjust certain dishes based on early feedback and customer preferences as we settle into operations.”
One of the challenges Prashant says the team has faced is the ongoing construction and roadworks along King William Road, which has made customer pick-up and drop-off slightly difficult.
Despite this, the team is looking forward to opening its outdoor dining area once construction is complete.
“Overall, it’s been a very exciting and rewarding start for us, and we’re incredibly grateful for the warm support from the Adelaide community.”
