Philadelphia contributes more than 273,000 fans as the tournament surpasses the historic 1994 World Cup attendance mark.
PHILADELPHIA, PA — June 25, 2026 — The FIFA World Cup 2026 has made history, breaking the all-time tournament attendance record previously set at the FIFA World Cup USA 1994.
The milestone was reached during the Ecuador vs Germany match at NYNJ Stadium, when total tournament attendance surpassed the previous record of 3,587,538 fans. In the 65th minute, FIFA recognized fan number 3,587,539 on the pitch alongside German football legend Sami Khedira as the new World Cup attendance record was announced inside the stadium.
Following the conclusion of Ecuador vs Germany at NYNJ Stadium and Côte d’Ivoire vs Curaçao at Philadelphia Stadium, the new FIFA World Cup attendance record now stands at 3,605,357 fans.
Philadelphia has played a significant role in this historic achievement. Through four matches, the city has welcomed 273,246 fans, helping push the tournament beyond the long-standing 1994 benchmark.
The record-breaking attendance reflects the growing popularity of football across North America and the global passion surrounding the FIFA World Cup 2026. Fans from around the world have traveled to the region to celebrate the game, support their national teams, and contribute to one of the most successful World Cup tournaments in history.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 also set a new daily attendance record on June 25, with 384,206 fans attending matches across all host venues. The tournament is also on track to achieve the highest stadium occupancy rate in World Cup history, currently standing at 99.7%.
Philadelphia will host two additional FIFA World Cup 2026 matches: Croatia vs Ghana on Saturday, June 27, at 5 p.m. ET, and a Round of 16 knockout stage match on Saturday, July 4, at 5 p.m. ET.
