Deshaun Watson’s hot play changes everything for trade deadline plans

With Deshaun Watson playing some of his best football in a while, the Browns are holding off on being sellers at the trade deadline.

The Cleveland Browns have definitely been one of the surprises of the NFL season, as they’re currently 5-2 and lead the AFC North. Deshaun Watson is playing some of the best football he’s played in a long time, and head coach Todd Monken has put this group in position to win almost every week.

When things like this are going right for a team, there’s no need for them to be sellers at the trade deadline, and it’s changed the Browns’ plans from weeks ago, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

“Because the team is winning, and because the Cleveland Browns are 5-2, so many of the trade conversations that I think a lot of people were talking about, maybe several weeks ago, have quieted,” Rapoport said. “Jerry Jeudy was the target of speculation in the rumor mill for a long time, actually going back to last year. It does not seem to me that the Cleveland Browns will now trade Jerry Jeudy, because they’re good.

“They might need him. He’s a great depth piece. He has been in the game plan, made a clutch play, not this week, but last week- it’s gonna take a premium pick to get someone like that from the Cleveland Browns. They don’t need to sell. When you’re in playoff contention, you don’t need to. So the Browns have certainly changed the way everybody looks at them with their wins.”

If anything, the Browns may want to be buyers so they can improve their team over the season. With the picks that they have, they could make an enticing offer for someone who has the ability to make a huge impact on the team.
