Singapore faced a similar tragedy in 1986, when Hotel New World collapsed, killing 33 people. Instead of stopping at accountability, the country strengthened its building inspection and safety systems, including regular structural checks and annual fire-safety inspections.
India has building safety rules too. But the bigger question is whether these rules are being properly followed and enforced on the ground. Because when safety checks fail, the cost can be measured in lives. 🕯️
