A building collapse in the South Campus area in Delhi has triggered severe anger and panic among university students and local residents. Eyewitnesses recounted clouds of dust and chaotic scenes, stating that locals pulled out trapped students before rescue teams arrived with limited equipment and delayed heavy machinery. Students from nearby Delhi University colleges expressed deep concern over dilapidated, unregulated paying guest accommodations, narrow lanes, and lack of affordable university hostels. They demanded strict government guidelines from civic authorities and the Delhi administration regarding building safety, occupancy limits, and construction audits for private accommodations. Multiple students noted that neighbouring structures remain fragile and tilted, posing constant dangers. Nearby colleges opened doors to provide temporary shelter and food to displaced students as rescue operations continued and the building owner reportedly fled.
