Patrice Bergeron might be retired from professional hockey, but over the weekend he proved he still has some magic left in his skates.

The former Bruins captain appeared at “Zee’s Final Shift” in Slovakia on Friday, reuniting with Bruins of past and present, including his former “perfection line” mates, Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak.

Bergeron scored three times during the exhibition match, including a beauty of a backhanded goal.

That ice time must have had Pastrnak reminiscing, because after the game he made a half-witted attempt at recruiting Bergeron back to Boston. He first asked Bergeron how many goals he scored, to which the ever-humble center replied “zero.” Pastrnak didn’t let him off that easy, but after Bergeron said he didn’t know how many goals he had, Pastrnak brought out the ultimate question:

“One more year?”

Bergeron laughed the comment off, and so did Pastrnak, even if he (and countless Bruins fans) are secretly hoping Bergeron considers one final run in the Black-and-Gold.

Bergeron was one of the most impactful players in Bruins history, accumulating the third most points, third most goals, and fourth most assists in franchise history. Pastrnak is almost certain to surpass Bergeron in goals by the end of next season, as his 420 lamp-lighters are only seven behind Bergeron’s.

Pastrnak is shooting up the Bruins all-time lists in his own right, already finding himself in the top 10 of all three major scoring categories.

It’s unlikely the star-studded duo will ever take the ice again outside of Friday’s exhibition, but it’s certainly fun to imagine what one more year of Bergeron and Pastrnak might look like.
