Crafted with conscience, this mehndi was a sustainable celebration woven in crochet and blooms!

Thoughtfully designed with sustainability at its heart, Riya and Arjav’s wedding at Fairmont Mumbai was a celebration where creativity met conscious living. Brought to life by WeddingSutra Favorite – Elusive Dreams by Pooja Doshi and seamlessly orchestrated by WeddingSutra Favorite – Weddings by ESL, every function reflected the couple’s desire to create beauty without excess. From handcrafted crochet keepsakes to lush botanical landscapes and naturally abundant florals, the festivities celebrated artisanal craftsmanship, mindful design, and timeless elegance.

Bringing together intimate handcrafted details and large-scale celebrations required meticulous coordination, and Weddings by ESL worked in close collaboration with Elusive Dreams By Pooja Doshi to transform the couple’s sustainability-first vision into an immersive guest experience. From sourcing over a thousand live plants that were returned to the nursery after the festivities to incorporating thoughtful personalised touches across every celebration, each design choice was guided by conscious creativity. Reflecting on the vision, Pooja Doshi shares, “The bride was deeply committed to ensuring that nothing went to waste. Every design decision stemmed from that intention, allowing us to create spaces that were not just beautiful but meaningful, with every element thoughtfully repurposed or gifted.”

The Mehndi unfolded as an enchanting ode to craftsmanship, where crochet became the defining language of the celebration. Set against powder blue lattice panels, pastel installations and inviting lounge corners, the space radiated warmth and whimsy. Handcrafted crochet chandeliers in delicate shades of blush, butter yellow and sky blue floated overhead, while tables brimmed with crocheted florals, plush toys, decorative accents and charming keepsakes that doubled as guest giveaways.

Every corner invited discovery. Crochet-wrapped vases overflowing with fresh blooms, artisanal cushions adorning elegant seating, personalised newspapers, bespoke table details and playful handcrafted accents created a setting that felt both intimate and imaginative. Rather than simply admiring the décor, guests became part of it, taking home the crochet creations as cherished mementoes of the celebration. The result was an immersive experience that balanced joyful creativity with understated sophistication. As Pooja Doshi explains, “We wanted the décor to continue living long after the celebration ended. Every crochet element was handcrafted to become a keepsake, allowing guests to carry a piece of the wedding home while ensuring nothing was created for a single day’s use.”
