Cleveland’s future gets insider praise after Myles Garrett trade

The Cleveland Browns must be down in the dumps after last week’s Myles Garrett trade. Cleveland dealt one of the best players in franchise history in exchange for a huge trade package from LA. It may be a dark time right now, but one NFL insider explained why the future in Cleveland could be a lot better.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated argued that the future looks bright for the Browns after the Garrett trade.

He pointed to Cleveland’s talented core of young players on rookie contracts as one reason for optimism. The Browns also have a full warchest of draft picks to deploy in future seasons.

“[Carson] Schwesinger and [Spencer] Fano are 23. [Mason] Graham, [Quinshon] Judkins and [Denzel] Boston are 22. [Dylan] Sampson, [Harold] Fannin and [KC] Concepcion are 21. Jared Verse, coming over in the Garrett trade, is 25 and lines right up with what the Browns are trying to build,” Breer wrote. “And now, Cleveland has two first-round picks in 2027, two second-round picks in 2028, and two third-round picks in 2029.”

The Browns have plenty of infrastructure in place, but they still lack the most important piece of all. If Cleveland can land a franchise quarterback in the near future, the entire trajectory of the franchise could change.

Breer noted that Garrett’s future in the NFL does not match that same timeline.

“That’s a lot to work with. And if you believe the Browns’ quarterback of the future may not be on the roster yet, then it certainly stands to reason that Cleveland has infrastructure with the potential to support and grow up with whoever that winds up being—and a crew with a timeline that lines up better with that QB of the future than Garrett would have,” Breer argued.

It will be exciting to see how Cleveland builds their roster over the next few seasons.
