The Cleveland Browns will have to do more on defense after defensive tackle Mason Graham exited in the opening quarter.
Things did not go well for the Cleveland Browns early on Thursday, as defensive tackle Mason Graham suffered a knee injury in the first quarter against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
It happened during the Steelers’ first possession, with Graham getting tangled up and falling to the ground. Graham was able to stand on his own and walked off to the medical tent “with a bit of assistance,” as noted by ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi.
“Left leg bent back awkwardly as he was being blocked,” added Oyefusi on X.
He went to the locker room after getting checked. Shortly after halftime, the Michigan product was ruled out for the remainder of the game, per NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
Graham’s exit was a major blow to the Browns, especially since he has been terrific this season. Entering the game against the Steelers, the second-year enforcer has logged eight total tackles and four sacks. He starred in their victory over the Carolina Panthers in Week 3.
Before the season, the 23-year-old Graham touted his continued improvement, adding that he wants to be a defensive anchor.
“Last year, I feel like I didn’t trust my technique all the way. I was reverting to my old ways, not playing the true scheme of the defense and trying to do what I’m comfortable with. But now, I’m comfortable with the actual scheme, so I’m starting to adapt more to that,” said Graham in a report from BrownsZone’s Scott Petrak.
The Browns are currently leading the Steelers just after halftime, 21-10. Deshaun Watson is 16-of-21 for 188 yards and one touchdown. Jaleel McLaughlin, Quinshon Judkins, and Harold Fannin Jr. each have one touchdown.
