The Cleveland Browns will begin the 2026-27 season with four quarterbacks on the roster after making a final decision on Taylen Green.
The Cleveland Browns are cutting the roster down to 53 players, and after announcing Deshaun Watson as the starting quarterback, expectations grew that the club would move on from at least one of the other QBs on the team. However, the club’s latest decision on rookie Taylen Green suggests otherwise.
Reports indicate that the Browns’ sixth-round pick has made the final 53-man roster, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. That means Cleveland will maintain four quarterbacks on the roster with Watson, Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, and Green.
“Browns QB Taylen Green has made the 53-man roster, source tells clevelanddotcom,” Cabot reported.
Watson and Sanders will be at the top of the pecking order in the quarterback room. While the eight-year veteran is the starter, his past production in the last three years gives head coach Todd Monken every possible reason to give Watson a short leash.
Meanwhile, Gabriel and Green will round out the back end of the depth chart. Dillon Gabriel had opportunities to prove himself as a possible starter for the Browns last season in his rookie year, but the former third-round pick failed to impress.
Green, on the other hand, is an interesting prospect for the Browns. He played at Arkansas last season and proved to be a solid dual-threat option under center. After five years at the collegiate level (three with Boise State, two with Arkansas), Taylen Green entered the NFL with 9,662 passing yards, 2,405 rushing yards, and 94 total touchdowns (59 passing, 35 rushing) while owning a 60.1% completion percentage.
The Browns will kick off the 2026-27 campaign with a Week 1 matchup on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Cleveland will not have a home game until Week 3 when the club takes on the Carolina Panthers.
