As Brad Stevens weighs some significant roster changes for the Celtics this season, Boston’s president of basketball operations reportedly re-upped a key bench contributor for the next few seasons.

The Celtics are re-signing Ron Harper Jr. to a three-year, $9 million contract, per ESPN’s Shams Charania. As part of the reworked deal, Boston declined Harper’s $2.6 million team option for the 2026-27 season to ink him to a longer deal.

The 26-year-old guard — the son of five-time NBA champion Ron Harper and older brother of Spurs guard Dylan Harper — had a breakout season for Boston in 2025-26.

He appeared in 26 games with Boston last season and averaged 4.0 points and 1.7 rebounds in 11 minutes per game. Harper added some scoring punch on Joe Mazzulla’s bench, sinking 41.8 percent of his shots from the field and converting on 35.0 percent of his 3-point attempts.

Harper earned a larger role as the 2025-26 season went on, dropping 27 points in Boston’s regular-season finale against the Orlando Magic before earning a surprise start in Game 7 of the Celtics’ first-round playoff series against the Sixers.

Beyond figuring out what to do with Jaylen Brown amid numerous trade rumors, the Celtics also need to make a call on team options for other roster players like Neemias Queta, Jordan Walsh, Dalano Banton, Max Shulga, and Amari Williams.
